Do All Lives Really Matter? Racism in America

I just want to make this clear to all who can read this. All lives have never mattered, in America! White people's lives have mattered more than any other race, in this country, since Day 1. The United States of America was stolen from Native Americans, who are now on the verge of extinction; and built by African slaves.

This year, we will be celebrating our 244th birthday, as a Nation. The Civil Rights Act was signed into law, on July 2, 1964; and to this day, our "great nation" continues to treat people of color like 2nd class citizens.
  • Immigrants in the U.S. as a whole have lower levels of education than the U.S.-born population; regardless of their immigration status.
  • In America, 76% of Millionaires are white.
  • The Poverty rate for Blacks and Hispanics is more than double that of non-Hispanic Whites.
  • The poverty rate of Native Americans is 25%. Incomes of Native Americans tend to be low, and unemployment rates are usually high.
  • Affirmative Action policies needed to be implemented, so that people of color would be given what amounts to "table scraps" of the opportunities that white folks take for granted (education and employment opportunities).
  • Unemployment is higher for people of color (including Native Americans) than it is for white folks.
  • People of color are incarcerated at a higher rate than white people; people of color also serve harsher sentences for the same crimes as white folks. Not because they commit more crimes per capita, or were more violent than white folks; but because of the color of their skin.
  • White people don't get stared at, or deliberately avoided, in public. People of color are presumed to be "dangerous", every day. Don't act like you've never flinched when passing by a black man, on the streets...I used to do that, too.
  • For decades, governments and private citizens have employed exclusionary tactics to prevent people of color from building wealth through homeownership and affordable housing. It's much easier for white people to own real estate.

Before any of you say, “but I’ve never been a fortunate white person"; neither have I. But we have more opportunities to become fortunate, than people of color. So, when you say "All Lives Matter", you're fooling yourself. If that were true, the concepts of equality and equity would be shared by all who live in America, regardless of the color of their skin; racism and hatred would be painful memories of the past, rather than present day ideals to fight against.

People of color are human beings, too! When are we going to finally acknowledge that, and treat them accordingly??
